ALL CHILDREN CITYWIDE SPEECH, ESSAY AND POSTER CONTESTS
The contest is open to all children in the greater Houston area and is part of the weeklong, city-wide celebration of Mahatma Gandhi Week
September 28 – October 5, 2008.
Mahatma Gandhi demonstrated to the world that Non-Violent methods and Satyagraha (Holding to the Truth) can be used to bring about profound social change and lasting peace. In recognition of this wisdom and effectiveness of Gandhian principles, the Mahatma Gandhi Library together with more than 50 organizations celebrate Mahatma Gandhi Week each year.
Our mission is to increase public awareness of Gandhi's philosophy and teachings, high-lighting the universal values of Truth, Non-Violence, Service and Love.
As part of Mahatma Gandhi Week 2006, a month long celebration, a city wide speech, essay and poster contests have been organized. The winners of the contest will be awarded their prizes by Mayor Bill White at "1000 Lights For Peace" on Sunday, October 5, 2008. Participants can pick up their certificates of participation in the essay contest at the event. For entry forms and more information please visit www.gandhilibrary.org.
